‘Oh My God, He Just Shot Him!’: Bodycam Captures NY Officer on Top of 13-Year-Old Boy, Punching Him Before Another Cop Fires Fatal Shot Into His Chest—Now His Mother Is Taking Them to Court

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 16:00

Nyah Mway, a 13-year-old refugee from Myanmar, had just graduated from middle school in New York when he was shot and killed by a police officer at point-blank range after another officer had tackled and punched the boy last year.

Utica police say they shot him because he was holding a gun, making them fear for their lives as they chased him on foot. But the gun turned out to be a pellet gun.

In April, Utica police officers Patrick Husnay and Bryce Patterson were cleared of wrongdoing by New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office. Husnay was the cop who shot him dead while Patterson was the cop who tackled and punched him.

Nyah Mway, a 13-year-old refugee from Myanmar, was shot and killed by Utica police in New York a day after graduating middle school. His mother, Chee War, left, has filed a federal lawsuit. (Photo: Chee War)

On Wednesday, the boy’s family filed a federal lawsuit against Husnay and the city of Utica, accusing the defendants of excessive force, battery, assault and accuses the city of reckless hiring, training, supervision, discipline, staffing and retention.

The lawsuit which lists the boy’s mother, Chee War, as the plaintiff, was filed by New York law firms Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel LLP and Camareri & Brenneck, PLLC.

According to the claim:

Officer Patterson was on top of Nyah, using his body and left arm to pin him down on the ground, while forcefully punching Nyah in the face with his right fist. Nyah, being only 5’ 5” and 111 pounds, was completely restrained and inert.

Less than a second later, at 10:19:03 PM, Defendant Husnay ran up to where Officer Patterson was on top of Nyah.

Three seconds later, at 10:19:06 PM, while Officer Patterson was still on top of Nyah punching him, Defendant Husnay without cause or justification fired a single bullet into Nyah’s left chest, penetrating his heart and lung—killing him.

Twenty seconds after firing the shot that killed Nyah, at 10:19:26 PM, Defendant Husnay recovered the pellet gun in a grassy area several feet from where Nyah laid bleeding out from the gunshot wound.

Stopped for Jaywalking

Utica police had stopped Nyah, who was accompanied by a friend on a bicycle, for jaywalking, but police said they were really stopping the boys because they matched the descriptions of a couple of armed robbery suspects who were seen on video robbing people at gunpoint of their phones, wallet and backpacks.

Body camera footages shows Patterson telling Nyah to take his hands out of his pocket and the boy responding by lifting his arms in the air.

However, when Patterson asked if he could pat him down to search him for weapons, Nyah took off running, prompting Patterson to run after him.

“He’s got a gun!” Patterson yells as Nyah can be seen holding a black object in his hand as he is running away.

Patterson tackles and punches him, which was captured on video recorded by a woman witnessing the action.

Seconds later, Husnay runs up behind Patterson and fires a single shot into the boy’s chest. He then picks up a gun near the boy’s body and said it appears to be a .22 caliber.

A distraught bystander is repeatedly heard yelling, “Oh my God! He just shot him!”

Nyah was pronounced dead later that evening at a local hospital.

The lawsuit states that Nyah and his family had resettled in Utica in 2015 after fleeing genocide in Myanmar, which is formerly known as Burma and still referred to by that name by many refugees.

Nyah and his family belong to the Karen ethnic minority. Since shortly after Burma obtained independence from British colonialism in 1948, the Burmese ethnic majority has conducted targeted campaigns of violence against the Karen—firing indiscriminately at and burning down Karen villages; destroying food and aid; arresting and  detaining Karen people on the merest suspicions; using widespread sexual and physical violence, including beatings, rape, and summary executions; forcibly relocating entire Karen communities; subjecting Karen people to forced labor and labor camps; using Karen people as human shields; recruiting Karen child soldiers; and laying landmines in Karen civilian areas.

Running terrified for their lives from Burma, Nyah and his family spent ten years in the Umpiem refugee camp before coming to Utica in 2015. Since resettling in Utica, Nyah and his family thrived, building a home and community for themselves, glad to be finally safe from the violence.

The Attorney General’s Report

After a ninth-month investigation, the New York Attorney General’s Office cleared the officers of wrongdoing on the basis that it was impossible to tell whether the pellet gun the boy was holding was real.

According to the 18-page report from the attorney general’s office.

BWC showed that Nyah Mway, during the foot pursuit, pointed an apparent handgun at Officer Patterson, who yelled, “Gun. He’s got a gun. He’s got a gun.” After falling in the roadway and being thrown on to the sidewalk, Nyah Mway continued to hold the weapon. BWC showed that as Officer Husnay approached the sidewalk, he yelled, “Drop it. F***ing Drop It.”

Nyah Mway continued to hold the weapon. When interviewed by OSI, Officer Patterson said he saw Nyah Mway drop the gun after he was shot. Though OSI has determined that Nyah Mway possessed a pellet gun replica of a Glock pistol, Officer Husnay’s statements after the shooting indicate he believed it was an actual firearm.

OSI concludes a prosecutor would not be able to disprove that it was reasonable for Officer Husnay to believe he needed to use deadly physical force under these circumstances. Therefore, OSI will not seek charges against Officer Husnay in connection with the death of Nyah Mway and closes the matter with the issuance of this report.

Nyah, who had graduated from middle school the day before his death, had aspirations to become a doctor, the claim states.

His eldest brother had suffered a leg injury in the refugee camp when he was three years old, and it had never healed. Nyah loved his siblings and wanted to heal his brother’s leg where other doctors had failed.

“My son Nyah was a good boy, a wonderful son with a bright future,” Nyah’s mother said in a statement to local media

“I love him and miss him, and I cry every day thinking about my beautiful boy.”

‘Oprah, Put That Skin Away’: Oprah Winfrey’s Dramatic Weight Loss Has Fans Doing a Double Take and Zooming In on Her Loose Skin

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 15:30

Oprah Winfrey made quite the impression during her recent arrival in Venice, Italy, where she joined fellow celebrities for what promises to be one of the most talked-about weddings of the year.

The media mogul was among the high-profile guests gathering ahead of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s lavish nuptials, but it wasn’t just her presence that had people talking.

When Winfrey landed in the city known as the Queen of the Adriatic, arriving by private jet at Marco Polo Airport, she opted for casual comfort.

Sporting a white knit lounge set paired with matching sneakers, stylish shades, and a black headband, the O publisher effortlessly blended relaxation with fashion as she set foot in the iconic Italian locale.

She carried a cream tote that perfectly complemented her relaxed travel ensemble.

However, it was her later outfit change that truly caught the attention of onlookers and social media users alike.

Video footage shared by Toofabnews captured the moment Winfrey stepped onto a boat wearing a striking plum and white dress with dramatic side cutouts that showcased her sculpted midsection.

The response from admirers was immediate and enthusiastic. “Oprah looking good. Got a lil skin showing. I love it,” one person commented, while another simply stated, “Oprah looks beautiful.”

The positive reception to Winfrey’s confident display comes after years of her very public journey with weight management.

The beloved television personality and “The Color Purple” producer has been refreshingly transparent about her struggles and recent transformations, including her decision to embrace weight-controlling medications like Ozempic as part of her health regimen.

Winfrey has also been vocal about incorporating a dedicated workout routine alongside pharmaceutical assistance, crediting this combination for helping her achieve the body confidence to wear clothing she’s always dreamed of donning.

In April 2024, she celebrated finally fitting into a white Gianfranco Ferré shirt — known for its sharp collar and cuffs — after fitness helped her overcome previous fit struggles. She had previously struggled with the fit due to changes in her body, but her commitment to fitness helped her achieve the desired silhouette.

Despite the overwhelming positivity surrounding her Venice appearance, not all commentary has been supportive.

Fans familiar with Winfrey’s weight-loss journey as a former Weight Watchers ambassador say she may have gone too far this time — pointing to what appears to be loose skin.

“Her skin waved before her hands did,” one person joked after spotting the media maven waving to fans before boarding a boat.

Another added, “Oprah all skinny now yet still drinking that elite tea… and disconnected.”

A third commenter didn’t hold back: “Oprah, put that skin away. Ain’t nobody tryna see all that,” while others urged her to consider surgery. “I’d get that skin cut off me so fast,” one wrote.

Some critics have focused on perceived imperfections, with one detractor noting, “Yes, her arm fat is jiggling. So much for Ozempic.”

Interestingly, while many fans celebrated Winfrey’s confidence and style, others couldn’t help but notice who was missing from the festivities.

“Where’s Steadman? Gayle is there, of course,” one observer noted, referencing Winfrey’s longtime partner Stedman Graham’s notable absence while her best friend Gayle King was clearly visible among the wedding guests.

Another fan offered insight into the dynamic, explaining, “Stedman doesn’t like the limelight. He’s fine letting his woman do her.”

This observation speaks to the enduring strength of Winfrey and Graham’s relationship, which has spanned nearly four decades since they began dating in 1986. Their unconventional approach to partnership has clearly worked, with both maintaining their individual identities while supporting each other’s endeavors.

‘The Guide Didn’t Stay with Her’: Brazilian Tourist Dies After Falling 1,600 Feet Into Indonesian Volcano — Family Blames Tour Guide for Abandoning Her and Slams Rescue Teams for ‘Negligent’ 4-Day Delay

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 15:00

The family of a young Brazilian woman who died after falling into an active volcano in Indonesia accused her tour guide of abandoning her and believes Indonesian authorities mishandled recovery efforts.

Search crews recently retrieved the body of 26-year-old Juliana Marins from Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s second-tallest volcano, located on the island of Lombok.

Marins slipped and fell down a ravine into the 12,000-foot volcano on June 21.

Mount Rinjani park authorities said rescuers heard her screams for help that day, triggering the rescue operation, according to the BBC. Three days after her fall, drone footage showed she was still miraculously alive.

But recovery efforts took a tragic turn when rescuers recovered her body on the fourth day of their search.

“After four days of work, made difficult by adverse weather, ground and visibility conditions in the region, teams from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency found the body of the Brazilian tourist,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil stated, per CNN. “The Brazilian government extends its condolences to the family and friends of the Brazilian tourist for the immense loss caused by this tragic accident.”

Marins’ family also confirmed the 26-year-old’s death in a statement on social media.

Instagram posts from Marins’ profile documented her backpacking travels across Southeast Asia, including visits to Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.

Her sister, Marianna, told local news outlet Fantástico that during her visit to Indonesia, she joined a small tour group to hike Mount Rinjani, according to the Daily Beast. Her sister said that at some point during the hike, she “got very tired” and asked her guide to stop for a while, but the guide decided to move on without her.

“They continued on, and the guide didn’t stay with her,” Marianna said. “She didn’t know where to go. She didn’t know what to do. When the guide came back because he saw that she was taking too long, he saw that she had fallen down there.”

In the days after she went missing, family members and friends raised concerns about the search efforts, stating that they received little information or false claims from Indonesian officials.

Two days after Marins disappeared, one of her friends published a video statement on Instagram, stating that the family was in contact with the Brazilian embassy and the Indonesian government. However, officials only offered “conflicting, delayed, and often false information” about rescue efforts, including a false claim that Marins was offered food and water a day after she tumbled into the volcano.

Marins also slipped further into the volcano and disappeared from view for a time, which complicated the rescue mission. Officials told Reuters she fell roughly 500 feet at first, but then descended to more than 1,600 feet by Monday.

Four days into the operation, authorities used a thermal drone to find Marins’ body, which was transported to a hospital after it was recovered.

“Juliana suffered great negligence on the part of the rescue team,” the family wrote in a statement on social media, which was also shared by Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo. “Juliana deserved much more! Now we are going to seek justice for her, because that is what she deserves! Don’t give up on Juliana!”

Marins was a publicist and dancer who lived in Niteroi, outside Rio de Janeiro.

More than 50 people were involved in her search efforts, and thermal drones, mountaineering gear, and a helicopter were all utilized to reach the young woman.

Mount Rinjani has been the site of other hikers’ deaths in recent years. Earlier this year, a Malaysian hiker fell while climbing the volcano. In 2022, a Portuguese man died after falling off a cliff.

‘We Don’t Instagram Every Minute of Our Lives’: Michelle Obama Fiercely Defends Her Marriage to Barack Obama Amid Constant Divorce Rumors

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 14:00

Michelle Obama is once again finding herself at the center of unfounded speculation about her marriage to former President Barack Obama, and this time she’s addressing the rumors head-on with a mix of humor and exasperation.

The former first lady has grown tired of tabloid whispers suggesting marital discord simply because the couple chooses to live their lives away from the constant glare of social media spotlight.

The latest wave of speculation intensified after Michelle was photographed on vacation while in Spain with daughters Malia and Sasha, notably without Barack by her side. The family trip to Mallorca sparked immediate commentary from critics and gossip enthusiasts wondering if the vacation was some type of evidence of trouble in paradise.

During a recent appearance on NPR’s “Wild Card” podcast with host Rachel Martin, Michelle addressed the persistent rumors with characteristic directness and a touch of bewilderment.

“The fact that people don’t see me going out on a date with my husband sparks rumors of the end of our marriage,” the 61-year-old explained.

When Martin quipped with a laugh, “It’s the apocalypse,” Michelle immediately echoed the sentiment: “It’s the apocalypse.”

The former first lady pointed to a generational difference in how she and Barack approach social media, explaining their absence from constant public documentation.

“It’s like, ‘OK, so we don’t Instagram every minute of our lives. We are 60. We’re 60, y’all. You just are not gonna know what we’re doing every minute of the day,’” she said.

She added, “And yes, I guess we’re famous, but we’re 60. We don’t take selfies.”

During the interview, Michelle revealed the deeper motivations behind her recent choices to step back from public expectations, like when she didn’t go to former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Trump’s inauguration in January.

Rather than apologizing for these decisions, she owned them completely.

“One of the major decisions I made this year was to stay put and not attend funerals and inaugurations and all the things that I’m supposed to attend,” Michelle explained, “That was a part of me using my ambition to say, ‘Let me define what I want to do, apart from what I’m supposed to do, what the world expects of me.’ And I have to own that. Those are my choices.”

Michelle acknowledged that her decisions came with consequences, but she remained unapologetic about prioritizing her own needs.

“Whatever the backlash was, I had to sit in it and own it. But I didn’t regret it, you know? It’s my life now, and I can say that, now,” she added, reflecting a newfound freedom in her post-White House years.

While she explains herself, many Atlanta Black Star Instagram followers pushed back against the criticism around the family, rumors of divorce, particularly surrounding the recent European getaway.

“Why is this anybody’s business?” one follower asked, cutting straight to the heart of the matter regarding the Mallorca vacation criticism.

Another supporter defended the trip, writing, “Sounds like a girl’s trip, and married folk are still two independent adults who might enjoy time apart on occasion. Plus, she’s earned the right to do literally whatever she wants.”

One person quipped, “THIS is scandalous?? With all that is going on in the world and in the current administration… THIS has people questioning?? Wtaf.”

Others challenged the basic premise that couples must be constantly visible together, asking “Who goes everywhere with their spouse?!”

Perhaps most tellingly, one person highlighted broader societal dynamics between how people see Michelle and Melania Trump, who has spent very few days in the White House since her husband was reelected, noting, “The current First Lady has completely disappeared from the public eye. People need to mind their business. Most folks aren’t used to seeing Black couples in a healthy marriage where boundaries are respected.”

In her latest interview, Michelle also reflected on how motherhood and her role as first lady required personal sacrifices that shaped her approach to ambition.

She has consistently pushed back against the narrative, previously stating that if marital problems existed, they wouldn’t be hidden.

As the Obamas navigate their post-White House years, Michelle’s message remains clear: their marriage will be defined by their own terms, not public expectations.

‘Crockett Is Jealous’: MAGA Followers Slam Jasmine Crockett As ‘Evil’ After Texas Rep Mocks Melania Trump’s Modeling Credentials

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 13:39

Melania Trump’s “Einstein visa” status came under attack at a June 25 House hearing on restoring credibility to the visa process.

Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett delivered an impassioned speech about “integrity,” questioning how the Slovenian-born former model could qualify for an EB-1 Visa, also known as the “Einstein visa,” which requires “some sort of significant achievement” for approval. She added, “It doesn’t take an Einstein to see the math ain’t mathin.”

Before talks turned to the first lady, Crockett blasted the Trump administration for “snatching” legal citizens and “lawful visa holders off the streets” and “throwing them into unmarked vans,” during his ongoing ICE raids and mass deportation campaign.

The administration recently targeted Harvard University’s student visa program, tightened screening for international students, and enacted sweeping travel bans affecting 19 countries.

At the hearing, the 44-year-old congresswoman pointed to a double standard that allowed Trump’s close associates to escape scrutiny, and took aim at Melania, who moved to the U.S. in 2001 after her Einstein visa was approved. In her blistering criticism, Crockett slammed Melania’s professional modeling career, implying that at her peak, she was still not in the same league as certain “supermodels” of the 1990s:

“Since we’re talking about integrity, I’m surprised by my Republican colleagues’ lack of integrity when it comes to the president’s family’s visas. Let me remind y’all that Melania, the first lady, a model — and when I say model I’m not talking about Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, or Naomi Campbell level — applied for and was given an EB1 Einstein visa,” Crawford said.

She continued: “Now y’all that don’t know, let me tell you how you receive an Einstein visa. You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement … like being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitzer, being an Olympic medalist, or having other extraordinary abilities or sustained success in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics. Last time I checked, the first lady had none of those accolades under her belt. It doesn’t take an Einstein to see the math ain’t mathin.”

Melania first landed in New York in 1996 and met Donald Trump two years later at the Kit Kat Club during Fashion Week. During this time, she appeared on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Bulgaria, Vanity Fair Italia, and British GQ, in which she posed nude in January 2000.

In 2001, she moved to the U.S. permanently on the EB-1 Visa and eventually became a U.S. citizen in July 2006.

A clip of Crockett’s remarks quickly went viral online, and opinions are divided. “I am a fan of Jasmine, but this was rude and unnecessary,” wrote one on X, followed up by the usual racist “ghetto”-related comments. Some MAGA followers slammed the Texas Congresswoman as “evil” and “a disgrace.”

“Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) disgracefully attacked Melania Trump on Wednesday for her modeling career and visa. Crockett said Melania wasn’t on the same level as other models and didn’t have the accolades to warrant an Einstein visa…,” one MAGA user wrote. “Crockett is jealous.”

But others applaud Crockett for her boldness, “I just love how she’s going for the jugular,” read one comment. “The gloves are off, and Rep. Crockett came with receipts and rhythm,” wrote another.

At the hearing, Alex Nowrasteh, Vice President for Economic and Social Policy Studies, spoke up to “defend” the first lady.

“I also want to defend Melania real quick,” he said. “Not everybody could marry Donald Trump, and I think that’s quite an achievement. So I think she deserves credit for that. Nobody up here could have done it!”

“You sure are right,” Crockett replied. “I couldn’t have done it.”

‘Fighting for My Life’: Uber Brawl Erupts on Atlanta Highway After Heated Dispute Over A/C — NBA Reporter Tearfully Claims She Was Maimed and Threatened, But Driver Says She Was the Real Victim

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 12:30

An Atlanta sports reporter and an Uber driver are both maintaining two different accounts about who initiated an attack that happened on the highway after a dispute over the car’s temperature escalated to physical violence.

Tabitha Turner, a reporter who covers the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream, held a press conference with her attorney about the violent encounter that happened over the weekend on I-85.

According to WAGA, Hapeville police say the driver, identified as Mericole Smith, picked Turner up at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Saturday afternoon.

Tabitha Turner, left, says she was pepper-sprayed by Uber driver Mericole Smith and has video to prove it. (Photos: Instagram/Tabturnertv, TikTok/Mericolaaa)

After Smith got on the interstate, Turner asked her to roll up the windows and turn on the air conditioning due to the scorching temperatures outside. Smith reportedly became upset, pulled into the emergency lane on the highway, and ordered Turner to get out of the car.

Turner said she would only exit the vehicle if she was refunded or police were called. That’s when Smith pepper-sprayed Turner, pulled her out of the vehicle, and then attacked her, according to police. Both women scuffled on the side of the road until a witness who saw the altercation pulled over and called 911.

However, Smith contested that version of events on social media.

In a now-viral video on TikTok, the driver claimed that Turner yelled at her about the A/C when she got in the car. After Turner didn’t calm down, Smith pulled over, flagged down another driver, and asked the passerby to call 911.

Smith also claimed that when she repeatedly requested Turner get out of her car, Turner refused and went “in her bag to get a weapon.”

Smith said that’s when she got back in the driver’s seat, got her mace, and pepper-sprayed Turner in self-defense.

“Because if you’re gonna be behind me with a weapon and insinuate that you’re gonna harm me, I’m going to act in my best interest, which is to protect myself, and that’s what I did. I maced the s— out of her,” Smith said in the video.

Smith said that’s when Turner lunged from the back of the car and attacked her, then got out of the car, and tried to gouge her eye out.

Her video got more than 2.5 million views on TikTok. Many users identified Turner as the attacker and posted the contact information of the agency that represents her.

At the news conference, Turner called Smith’s version of events false and said her video triggered a barrage of threats and harassment that left her in fear for her life.

“They flooded my social media with threats. They’ve reached out to people I work with,” Turner said tearfully of the threats she’s received from people online. “I have a 1-year-old daughter I like to take to games with me. Now I can’t, because I don’t know who’s going to be there to attack me based on what she’s saying.”

Police ultimately determined that Smith was the aggressor after Turner showed them cellphone video of the dispute, showing the pair arguing before Smith pepper-sprayed Turner and yelled at her to “get the f— out the car.”

“It is apparent that Smith was the primary aggressor as she swung and struck Turner and then used a non-deadly weapon,” the police report states, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Both women sustained injuries. Authorities say Turner scratched Smith in self-defense. Turner’s attorney said that Turner’s hair was pulled out and her left arm was injured.

Smith, however, still disputes Turner’s side of the story and maintains that the sports reporter launched the attack.

“I was, like, covered in blood,” Mericole Smith told WSB-TV. “I am essentially fighting for my life. I would never do this. I have so much to lose.”

Turner also continues to challenge Smith’s claims.

“People questioning my character because of what she’s saying. … I just wanted to go home after work and see my daughter,” Turner said.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Smith for simple battery and misdemeanor battery. Smith said she will turn herself in.

Turner said she plans to pursue legal action against Smith.

In a statement about the incident, Uber told WSB-TV, “Safety is fundamental to the Uber experience, and conduct like this is not tolerated. We’ve taken action in response to this disturbing incident, including removing the driver from the Uber platform, and will support law enforcement however we can.”

Representatives for both Atlanta basketball teams have declined to comment.

‘Trump and Melania Are on the Verge of Divorce?’: Melania Trump Leaves Donald Trump Hanging After She Skips Meeting with Royal Family, Fueling More Talk of Their Alleged Split

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 11:34

Melania Trump shrugged off her duties as first lady once again.

The 55-year-old was noticeably absent during her husband’s trip to the Netherlands where he met with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima on Tuesday, June 24.

President Donald Trump went overseas for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit which was the country’s first time hosting it. However, it seems his wife decided to skip out. This isn’t the first major event Melania has skipped, but her growing list of absences is fueling speculation that she and Donald may be done with the marriage.

During his arrival, Donald met with other world leaders where they not only took a photo but also attended a welcome dinner. But Melania was noticeably absent. Her silence, both in public and on social media since promoting her AI audiobook, has sparked growing speculation: Where is she, and are she and Donald still together?

Melania’s ongoing absence sent the Daily Mail comment section into a frenzy, with readers unleashing divorce rumors and wild theories about her disappearance.

One person said, “So does this mean Trump and Melania are on the verge of divorce? She’s rarely seen with him and they don’t live together. Why so quiet about this daily mail?”

Adding to the rumor that Donald pays her to be married to him, someone said “So where is she now? Why is she not showing up as First Lady?”

Another added, “Lovefest? Is this reporting. What lovefest? Melania was not with him on the trip? What? She is never around and doesnt go on his trips. She is rarely if ever at the White House?”

A third joked, “I forgot we had a first lady.”

While some took a lighthearted jab at her absence, others defended her decision to stay behind. One said, “Why would Melania go? This is a BUSINESS trip. Most wives don’t go on business trips.”

The last time the world saw Melania is when she attended The Grand Military Army Parade on June 14. In some moments, Melania and Donald addressed the crowd with smiling faces, while holding hands. But other clips showed the former model scouring, rolling her eyes, and refusing to hold his hand, which she’s been caught doing on other numerous occasions.

The last time Melania was seen publicly was at the Grand Military Army Parade during the festivities for her husband’s birthday on June 14. At times, she and Donald smiled and held hands as they addressed the crowd. But in other clips, Melania appeared to scowl, roll her eyes, and refuse to hold his hand — something she’s been caught doing more than once before.

As for the media, they have been heavily reporting on Melania’s nonappearance. The New York Times reported in May that two people with knowledge of Melania’s schedule said she had only stayed at the White House for a total of 14 days after he got inaugurated over 100 days prior.

Then at the top of June, “60 Minutes Australia” did a 20 minute special addressing Melania’s lack of public showings. Trump biographer Michael Wolff suggested that their relationship was all for show and convenience.

“I asked someone very close to them. I said, ‘So what’s going on?’ And this person looked at me like I was a real dunce, and then said, ‘She hates his f—king guts!’” said Wolff.

While Melania did not directly respond, the White House issued a statement instead.

“It is unprofessional and irresponsible for ‘60 Minutes Australia to tarnish and defame the reputation of the First Lady of the United States,” they said. “The details of Mrs. Trump’s personal and family should be respected as private. One must consider the potential harm caused by creating unfounded narratives solely to garner clicks.”

But it shouldn’t be so much of a shock that Melania has been missing. She pretty much made people aware that she wouldn’t be at the White House before her husband even got in office.

One week before  Donald’s second inauguration she spoke with “Fox and Friends” on her living arrangements. She said, “I will be in the White House. And when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. My first priority is to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife.”

Her and Donald’s 19-year-old son Barron Trump currently lives in New York as he is attending NYU. Palm Beach is where she and Donald’s Mar-a-lago residence sits.

On June 24, Melania and Trump were both invited by King Charles for a second state visit to the U.K. The event is said to take place in September, so time will tell if Melania is present.

‘Keep Dr. King’s Name Out of Your Mouth!’: Outraged Black Congresswoman Loses It After Republican Colleague Quoted Martin Luther King Jr. to Justify DEI Purge

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 10:00

On June 25, California Rep. Lateefah Simon made sure her voice was heard loud and clear at a congressional hearing that appeared to have the sole purpose of discrediting and dismantling DEI.

When Republican Virginia Rep. John McGuire used a Dr. Martin Luther King quote out of context to justify the White House’s anti-DEI crusade, it was too much for the 48-year-old from the Bay Area.

Simon ripped into McGuire and other attendees who reduced MLK’s words into a pithy soundbite, telling them to “keep Dr. King’s name out of your mouth!”

An edited clip of her explosive speech has been circulating on social media, drawing both criticism and praise.

The hearing, titled “Sacrificing Excellence for Ideology: The Real Cost of DEI,” was held by the Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services, which has oversight of federal health care policy. Simon was allowed four and a half minutes to speak after listening to testimony on the supposed evils of DEI, including a hypothetical scenario put forth by McGuire of being operated on by an underqualified surgeon.

McGuire of Virginia told the room, “To me, DEI stands for ‘didn’t earn it,’” before blasting former President Joe Biden’s DEI policies as “disastrous… Marxist, it destroys innovation and motivation.” He then asked the witnesses gathered at the hearing if they agreed with Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous quote that people should be judged by the content of their character, and not the color of their skin.

Cue the fury. Simon acknowledged it was a “difficult conversation to have” before unleashing her outrage.

“There are so few folks who have actually studied, who are clear on the theology of freedom of King. Very few of you have read and studied and have sat in Ebenezer Baptist Church, so I would ask you: You keep Dr. King’s name out of your mouth!” she admonished.

“He and the mothers and the fathers of the civil rights movement and the movement for emancipation not only would be struck by the conversations in this room, but would be shattered by the consequence of lives, of hatred, of abuse of this administration in the name of folks who worked to make this country more free…. This conversation is not about an acronym, it’s just not,” she said.

Simon, who was born legally blind and is the first Muslim member of Congress from California, had a long history of civil rights advocacy before entering politics and was the youngest woman ever to receive a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship.

“I have spent my career fighting for people who traditionally have not had a voice in places of power,” the San Francisco native told NBC News in the lead-up to her election in November 2024.

At the hearing, she referenced her great-grandmother who had a “literal yoke on her neck,” and reminded the members that people of color “had to fight tooth and nail to gain access to the front door to this Capitol.”

The fiery clip of the hearing is putting Simon on people’s radar, whether for good or bad.

“I was unfamiliar with Rep. Simon. Thank you for this introduction,” wrote one commenter on X. “Powerful words. Maga [Republicans] ALWAYS quote MLK Jr, yet just as they do [with] the Constitution, they pick and choose only which parts they like.” While others found her “too much,” saying, “This is why the democrats are losing voters. Too much performance. Too much grandstanding. Win with facts and ideas, not songs and dances.”

‘He Doesn’t Look Interested’: Larsa Pippen Drops Bombshell About Her and 31-Year-Old Boyfriend’s Future as Cameras Zoom In on His Reaction

Fri, 06/27/2025 - 00:38

Marriage is on the table again for Larsa Pippen and her new boyfriend Jeff Coby, but there seems to be some hesitation on his part.

On Wednesday, June 25, “The Real Housewives of Miami” star appeared on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” where she chatted about the future of her and Coby’s relationship.

The conversation about wedding bells came up when host Andy Cohen spotlighted the former pro ball player in the audience.

“Before we get into tonight’s episode I want to say hi to your boyfriend Jeff Coby,” he said as the audience welcomed him with applause. Cohen added, “Wow, I mean this is major. I mean this is really official if you’re sitting here with Larsa.”

After some in-between chatter, Cohen unhesitatingly asked the couple if they think they will get married in the future. Silence fell across the room as Pippen, 50, and Coby, 31, stared at each other with awkward smiles. After a while, even a few audience members chuckled until Pippen finally broke the silence with an answer.

Looking at Coby, she said, “Uh, I think so.”

For confirmation Cohen responded, “You think so?”

Pippen answered, “Yeah, yeah.”

Cohen with a shocked expression said, “Wow! That’s big.”

Pippen, who seemed more settled, turned to Cohen and said, “Yeah, I found my twin.”

“You found your twin. All right,” Cohen said.

One person reacted to the clip on the Jasmine Brand’s Instagram page, writing, “In a few months they’ll go their separate ways like always.”

But fans of the franchise were more ruthless in the comments on Bravo’s WWHL Instagram page, where one person wrote, “That man don’t want her.”

“He doesn’t look interested,” said a second.

Poking fun at their 19 year age, a third person wrote, “Larsa was Dating Scottie Pippen when he [Coby] was born.”

It’s not clear why the new couple were so hesitant to answer the question about tying the knot, especially since at least one of them spoke with more confidence on the subject previously.

Just last month, TMZ’s paparazzi caught them walking hand in hand in Miami and when approached with questions about their relationship Coby stated: “We’re getting married in November 2025!”

During the interaction, Pippen silently covered her mouth and closed her eyes as if she were embarrassed.

But the former Ivy League player continued. “We’re getting married. It’s going to be a beautiful marriage. November 2025,” he said. He then amended that by saying the two actually are going to get hitched in 2026.

LARSA PIPPEN AND JEFF COBY ARE GETTING MARRIED

Coby — a 31-year-old former pro basketball player — revealed to paparazzi outside of a swanky event in Miami on Sunday night he and Larsa Pippen are set to get married in November.

For extra clarity, the paparazzi asked if that meant he was proposing now. Coby answered, “I can’t tell you when I’m going to propose.”

It’s been weeks since that May 4 moment, and Coby still appears to be smitten with Pippen. When Cohen asked what he liked about her he said, “She’s just one of the best humans I’ve ever met in my life. And she’s so sweet, intelligent, caring. Like what’s there not to love about her?”

Pippen revealed on the show that the two were in their seventh month of dating, but according to TMZ they just met in January at a mutual friend’s party.

As for marriage, Pippen has previously walked down the aisle and exchanged vows with former Chicago Bulls player Scottie Pippen. The two were wed for 19 years. Together they welcomed four children: Scotty Pippen Jr., 24, Preston Pippen, 22, Justin Pippen, 19, and 16-year-old, Sophia Pippen.

More than a year after their divorce was finalized, Larsa was awarded half of Scottie’s retirement funds after it was deemed community property.

Following that, she went on to date men who were more than a decade younger than her. She first had a scandalous relationship with Malik Yao, who was called out by his wife for infidelity. Then she dated Marcus Jordan, the son of Scottie’s former teammate, Michael Jordan, in 2022.

During their on-and-off relationship from 2022 to 2024, there were talks of marriage between Jordan and Pippen. However, the two never made it to the altar, nor did they get engaged.

‘Don’t Know What I Ever Did to You’: Owner of St. Louis Restaurant Where a Black Woman Was Called a Derogatory Term Plays Victim After Interaction Goes Viral

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 22:00

A Black content creator dining at Crafted in St. Louis said she was stunned by a confrontation with a white server after simply asking about her bill — an incident she caught on camera and later shared online to mixed reactions.

The server—identified only as Maddy but not shown in the video—snapped after being asked to clarify a charge by a Black woman, in a moment that carried clear racial overtones.

The restaurant’s manager later admitted it wasn’t Maddy’s first complaint, highlighting what the customer saw as a broader erosion of courtesy and professionalism in the social media era.

TikTok user @c0urtneycc recorded a rude interaction with an employee at CraftedSTL in St.Louis. The owner responded in her own video. (Photos: TikTok)

Viral footage of the confrontation was later posted to TikTok by the customer, who goes by the handle @c0urtneycc.

The dispute played out against the funky soft rock hit “Lowdown” by Boz Scaggs drifting through the bar in the background as tensions boiled at a high-rise table.

“What’s the issue over here?” the employee asked as she walked up to the woman, still seated, sipping her drink and waiting to cash out.

The customer, calm but clearly frustrated, told her to speak with the bartender—someone she’d already talked to about a billing error, apparently because the original waitress had taken too long to return.

“I just asked what’s the issue,” the staffer replied flatly, even though the woman had just explained it.

The customer laid it out again: a happy-hour discount hadn’t been applied to the bill; the bartender had already acknowledged the mistake and promised to fix it. She then told the waitress to check with her co-worker about it.

That’s when the server snapped.

“Okay, let’s not be a b-tch, she’s gonna get it taken care of,” she said.

The customer nearly choked on her drink. She stayed composed, but the insult clearly landed. “What’s your name? What’s your name?” she asked abruptly.

Instead of apologizing, the waitress fired back, saying something to the effect of: “You don’t need to get loud in here,” then ended with, “So just be quiet,” before stomping off.

The customer shot up from her seat in outrage, no longer staying calm. She called out for the woman’s boss.

“Where’s your manager?” she responded, now trailing the waitress’ footsteps to the other side of the bar. “I just recorded what you just said, right? Can I speak to a manager?” she yelled before the video abruptly cut off.

A second video posted by the same woman shows an earlier moment from a different angle, where she asks another server whether the bill included the happy hour discount. The waitress sounded confused and unable to give a clear answer.

Later, the woman who filmed the episode posted a follow-up video of herself responding to negative comments from TikTok users who blamed her for the confusion and its dramatic aftermath.

“This was the most disgusting experience I have ever had while dining out. I eat out all the time. I’m a huge foodie. I spend great money on the food I do eat and I don’t complain,” she said.

She explained that she lives just steps from the restaurant and had stopped in for the first time to meet a group of friends. After arriving, she went to the restroom and noticed a sign on the wall advertising the happy-hour special. She instinctively snapped a photo of it. Later, when she asked the bartender to clarify what the special included, he seemed unsure, leaving her wondering how a bartender could be unfamiliar with his own bar’s promotions.

She pulled out the photo to prove she wasn’t making it up, and that’s when the bartender seemed to snap out of it, confirming that the special was shareable and good for any mixed drinks, and to remind the server at checkout about the discount.

At that point, she ordered a canned beverage called a High Noon — a brand of hard seltzer made with vodka, sparkling water, and fruit juice. After placing the order, she returned to her table and waited, but the drink never arrived. She claimed the server walked past their table twice without acknowledging them and ignored her attempts to get her attention.

Half the group moved to the bar because no one was helping them, while Courtney and another friend stayed at the table and, after waiting a while longer, finally ordered food.

Courtney said that during the meal, the server never once checked on them or asked if everything was OK. After eating, her friend immediately asked for the check. The service had been so poor, Courtney said, that once the bill arrived, she couldn’t help but ask whether the happy hour discount had even been applied. To no one’s surprise, it wasn’t.

The discount wasn’t integrated into the restaurant’s point-of-sale system, so it had to be applied manually — something the staff either overlooked or didn’t seem to understand. Like the bartender, the waitress seemed confused by the basic concept of happy hour.

After a brief interaction, the original waitress left Courtney, presumably to discuss the matter behind the scenes with Maddy, who walked up on Courtney from behind.

Courtney explained that just after she returned to the table, instead of addressing the issue with maturity, Maddy stood behind her without announcing herself. “Breathing down my neck,” Courtney claimed. “When I finally turned around, she’s like I’m ready whenever you are.” Courtney said it was as if the conversation about the discount had never occurred.

She said Maddy complained that she had been rude for being on her phone during the food service. But Courtney explained that she was taking photos of her meal as part of her work as a content creator, and argued that it shouldn’t have mattered whether she was on her phone or simply chatting with her friend at the table.

She took issue with the server’s whole approach, saying she let her emotions take over instead of asserting herself professionally like a waitress should when approaching a table.

Courtney said the mood inside the restaurant was cold from the moment she arrived.

“Mind you, nobody at this restaurant had a smile on their face or any kind of warmness about them,” she said, adding no one showed any decorum “except the bartender,” whom she described as “exceptionally kind to me.”

“But the women who work there, Maddy, and the blond-haired girl, were very rude, drab, uh, lifeless even. You know, obviously they hate their job,” she described.

She added that it wasn’t even busy at the time, with maybe three parties in the whole restaurant.

After the initial confrontation, Courtney said she followed the server to get some answers. As she did, the manager emerged from the kitchen area. She explained what had just happened and confirmed that one of her servers had just called her the B-word. After acknowledging the situation, Courtney said the manager brushed her off and returned to the back without resolving anything.

Moments later, Maddy approached again — this time speaking to Courtney as if they knew each other. She began using Courtney’s first name and made cryptic remarks, insisting things like “you’re not even supposed to be here, X, Y, Z,” Courtney said.

Next, another staff member appeared at the tableside with Maddy and asked what was going on.

According to Courtney, Maddy admitted right then to calling her the B-word. The other employee scolded Maddy on the spot, saying, “We do not talk to our customers that way.” After that, both employees disappeared into the kitchen before returning with the manager again.

Courtney said she then warned the manager that she planned to post the video to social media. The manager pleaded with her not to.

The manager explained that the bartender had misunderstood the happy hour promotion and acknowledged the special hadn’t been made clear to the staff. She offered to take 50 percent off the bill, but by then, Courtney and her group were ready to leave. The tension between Courtney and the waitress, the manager admitted, made her believe something deeper was at play in the whole situation.

Eventually, the confrontation ended with the manager comping the entire bill.

“I’m taking my business back to Clayton, because Clayton is a more affluent area in St. Louis, and, no, it’s not the only place with good food, but they have decorum. You know, these people here were absolutely out of their minds,” she said. “Everything that happened was totally uncalled for.”

Later, the owner, Dani Davis, posted her own TikTok video apologizing for what happened, while also accusing Courtney’s social media followers of trying to “destroy” her business by flooding multiple platforms with negative reviews.

“I don’t know what I ever did to you or Crafted did to you, but whatever we did, I apologize.”

She claimed that lies and misinformation were being spread about the situation, and intended her video to set the record straight.

“We don’t condone our employees calling our customers any name, let alone bitches, and we try to give good service to everybody,” she said.

Davis suggested the situation had been handled appropriately, pointing out that Courtney received a free meal and that the server had simply been put in her place over the incident.

However, it does not appear that the server was fired, despite what many would consider a fireable offense in any other setting. There was a time when an employee might be let go on the spot for speaking to a customer that way. But not at Crafted in St. Louis. Davis, the owner, even claimed she had her own footage of the waitress “bawling her eyes out” over the incident, though she had not shared it publicly as of Thursday.

“I don’t know how else you would’ve wanted me to handle that situation because we, even as you stated, we told her in front of you that wasn’t acceptable,” Davis told Courtney in the video. “She got yelled at that evening. She was even told that she’s on permanent probation and off the schedule.”

‘She Should Be Arrested Dressing Like That In Public’: Outrage Erupts After Bianca Censori Ditches Her Clothes for Edible Undergarments Following Alleged Massive Payday from Husband Kanye West

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 21:38

Bianca Censori, 30, reportedly made her husband, Kanye “Ye” West, agree to a six-figure payout for wearing a risque outfit in New York City.

The Australian socialite recently walked the streets of Brooklyn in candy lingerie and silver stilettos. Photographers caught her in a bra and thong set while out with West, 48, for a studio visit.

According to the U.S. Sun, Ye agreed to pay Censori $100,000 to put on the barely there attire. She supposedly refused the idea until the couple made a financial agreement, which West initially rejected before changing his mind.

“Bianca has figured out how to turn all this into her advantage,” an unnamed supposed source told the outlet. “A lot of the outfits aren’t to her taste. But she tells him she will wear them — if she’s paid.”

Censori is said to be “monetizing her image” by being compensated “per look or event.” The tabloid claims the arrangement has allegedly cost West $3 million already, including $120,000 for his spouse’s highly publicized red-carpet look at the 2025 Grammys.

Additionally, the unnamed insider claimed that Censori’s provocative public pop-outs allow Ye to maintain his “edgy persona” while positioning his wife to be seen as “the sexiest woman alive.”

“She knows exactly what she’s doing,” a second unidentified purported source stated to the Sun about Censori. “She’s turning every outfit into a paycheck. Kanye’s obsessed with styling her, but she’s the one calling the shots.”

Kanye and Bianca’s alleged wardrobe deal generated heated reactions from celebrity watchers. Page Six readers slammed the headline-grabbing pair in the website’s comment section.

“I’ll go further. If she wasn’t out there flaunting her naked body in eye-popping situations, no one, and I mean NO ONE, would give Mr West a second thought. He’s already irrelevant,” read one comment.

“She should be arrested [for] dressing like that in public,” a second critic declared about Censori. Another individual wrote, “We knew what she was, we just didn’t know her price.”

However, Censori got a little backing when a commenter posted, “Cute outfit, but the top could have been done better.”

“I thought they were married, saying he’s paying her doesn’t make sense when she’s entitled to his money!” proclaimed one person.

West wed Censori in December 2022 only weeks after finalizing his divorce from his first wife, reality television star Kim Kardashian.

The romance between the Grammy-winning rapper and the Yeezy architectural designer took center stage globally during their summer 2023 trip to Europe.

West and Censori faced significant backlash for an unseemly PDA moment during a boat ride in Venice, Italy. The “Gold Digger” hitmaker was caught with his pants partially down as Censori’s head was nestled in his lap.

Throughout their international journeys over the last two years, Censori became a regular trending topic for her revealing fashion choices. Paparazzi regularly caught the Aussie rocking racy outfits in the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Spain.

Ye’s ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose, insisted the Chicago-raised musician controls what his partners wear. The television personality and former exotic dancer also mentioned Kardashian during a March 2025 interview.

“Kanye for sure is dressing her like that, ” Rose said on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, referring to Bianca. “He did the same thing to me and Kim.”

The ex-video vixen, who dated Ye from 2008 to 2010, also stated, “He wants other men to want to f—k his woman. That’s what he’s into. He likes that men are like drooling over his woman.”

Rumors claiming they were heading for divorce began circulating by late 2024. In April 2025, Ye seemingly addressed the alleged breakup in a song titled “BIANCA” that leaked to the internet.

“Bianca, I just want you to come back. Come back to me. I don’t know what I did to make you mad,” West raps on the song. “My baby, she ran away. But first, she tried to get me committed.”

The G.O.O.D. Music label founder continued, “She’s having a panic attack, and she is not liking the way that I tweeted. Until Bianca’s back, I stay up all night, I’m not going to sleep.”

Kanye and Bianca apparently reconciled before flying to Spain in May.

West returned to the United States in June to make a shocking appearance in New York at the federal trial for his longtime friend, hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

‘They Were on His Side’: Prosecutors Won’t Pursue Criminal Case Against Florida Man Who Fantasized About Shooting Small Black Girl Who Rang His Doorbell, Outraged Mother Says

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 20:50

State attorneys won’t prosecute a Florida man who fantasized about shooting a Black child on social media after she knocked on his door to sell some of her toys and candy, the girl’s mother states.

Beyond Shabazz told Atlanta Black Star that prosecutors will not pursue charges against Tyler Chambers, a Tampa-area homeowner who went viral earlier this year after he posted a doorbell camera image of Shabazz’s 9-year-old daughter with the caption, “You’re lucky we weren’t home to shoot your a— dumb b—.”

Tyler Chambers wrote a Facebook post saying that he would shoot a girl for ringing his doorbell. (Photo: X/@BachirSoHumble)

Chambers shared the post in a community group, and it was screenshotted and reshared all over social media, quickly drawing backlash. Many people condemned the violent threats Chambers aimed at the child and pointed to the racist overtones in his language.

Before deactivating his account entirely, Chambers deleted his post and later stated his case, alleging the girl — who had gone to the home with her 11-year-old cousin and was recorded saying, “I would just like to let you know that you are a p— b—h” — was acting as a “decoy” for an attempted break-in at his home without sharing evidence to support the accusation.

“I saw that on my camera and have a wife and 7-month-old at home, which I will protect as you would. I was hot when I posted it which is why I deleted it right away I could have handled it a lot different,” Chambers wrote, adding he wanted to locate the girl’s parents to apologize.

Shabazz said she had been waiting for weeks to hear from the state attorney’s office about the status of a potential criminal case against Chambers and finally heard back this week with the reason they decided not to move forward.

“They said he stated he was not home, so they couldn’t prove he had true intentions of hurting her,” Shabazz said. “I feel that their decisions were made only to avoid prosecuting Mr. Chambers; they worked very hard to find every reason not to file charges against him. It seems as if they were on his side.”

She continued, “I am not OK with their decision, but they claim that this decision was made according to the law, so they have closed the case pertaining to Mr. Chambers.”

Shabazz has indicated that she and her attorneys plan to sue Chambers.

After his home address was doxxed, authorities told Shabazz that he and his family temporarily moved out of their home. Shabazz said the family has since moved back in.

Shabazz and Chambers became neighbors after she moved her family to the Riverview area of Tampa a few years ago. Now, she says she’s in the process of moving out of “this racist neighborhood for the sake of my kids’ future.”

‘What Did She Do to Her Face?’: Selena Gomez’s Unrecognizable Selfie Has Fans Zooming In on Her New Look

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 20:15

Selena Gomez decided to try out a new look, but she’s not sure if she’s fully committing to it yet.

The 32-year-old actress and singer posted a selfie on June 23 sporting a retro and edgy haircut that made social media users want to stop scrolling.

Though her cheeks had a touch of blush and her lips popped with an orange-red hue, it was her hairstyle that truly stole the spotlight.

In the image, Gomez can be seen straight into the camera with a model-esque facial expression. She normally wears her dark brown hair pulled back out of her face or straight or bodywave curls.

This time she opted for a somewhat disheveled look with bangs — giving fans a flashback to her style back in 2022.

In the caption she wrote, “I would, but I’d regret it, then get it redone so I simply won’t #bangs.”

Gomez limited the comments on her post, reducing some fans’ ability to respond and comment about her look, which some praised by sharing with fire emojis and heart eyes. One person wrote, “Looking flawless.”

Despite the post being focused on her hair, many couldn’t help but comment on her face, noting how different she looked — particularly her usually round jawline.

One person in E! News’ comments wrote, “What did she do to her face?”

Another said, “Omg that face, girl no.”

Meanwhile, a more positive commentator wrote, “What ever she does is stunning even if it is a wig!”

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez)

In 2013, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects the kidneys, the skin, the joints and more, which she attributed to the changes in her body and appearance and explained further in a 2023 TikTok video.

When she’s taking the medication, the former Disney Channel star said her body will “tend to hold a lot of water weight and that happens very normally. And then when I’m off of it I tend to kind of lose weight.”

The changes in her appearance were not as shocking as the many who pointed out the hair on her head.

A person in E! News’ comment asked, “Isn’t this a wig for her upcoming movie?”

Two others confirmed, “It’s a wig and she’s filming a bio movie” and “Or maybe a wig. I think she is working on her movie portraying Linda Ronstadt.”

Someone else stated, “We are getting closer to the Linda Ronstadt movie.”

Gomez revealed last year she was set to portray 11-time Grammy Award winning country singer Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic.

Ronstadt started her career with the Stone Poneys before going solo in 1968. She’s best known for chart hits like “You’re No Good,” “When Will I Be Loved,” “Blue Bayou,” and more.

Ronstadt, 78, often wore bangs even with different hairstyles that were longer, shorter, straight or curly.

Though Gomez was in talks to play Ronstadt, the status of the project remains uncertain.

“That’s still happening, though I’m not sure when,” Gomez explained to Hollywood Reporter in November 2024. “With Linda, once I met her and read two books, one of them over and over, I just found her to be so [compelling]. She had such an interesting perspective on music and life, and I really admired that. She never really needed to be as successful, and she was willing to try different things. But there’s a reason it’s taking time. We want to make sure it’s going to be good.”

‘What Happened to Her?’: Photos of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s Shocking Transformation Since Trump’s First Term Have Critics Doing a Double Take

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 17:39

Once again, President Donald Trump’s current press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, remains a hot topic online but not for her job title.

Trump named the 27-year-old as his official White House spokesperson after the MAGA leader won the 2024 presidential election, becoming the youngest person to hold that position.

After graduating from college in 2019, Leavitt, 27, worked during his first administration writing letters to constituents from the correspondence office. From there, she became assistant White House press secretary in Trump’s first term from May 2020 to January 2021. After leaving the administration, she ran a losing U.S. congressional race in New Hampshire in the 2022 election.

While Leavitt’s return to Washington for the second Trump term has made her a lightning rod for controversy as she defends the administration’s policies and extols the president, some critical X users are zeroing in on her appearance.

A two-photo collage of Leavitt posted on June 25 has gone viral. One photo dates back to 2021, while the other is labeled 2025, sparking widespread discussion.

A page on X shared the two images side by side, leading many to take notice of Leavitt’s appearance. One person responded, “She looks 10 [years] younger in 2021.”

Similarly, someone expressed, “She looked really nice in 2021. What happened?” A fourth stated, “She went from 21 to 38 in 4 years. Wow.”

One critic blamed Leavitt’s apparent transformation on her association with Trump, writing, “She was wholesomely beautiful at one time. It’s sad to see what happens to women once they embrace being a MAGA.”

Additionally, one Leavitt critic brought up her marriage to 60-year-old real estate developer Nicholas Riccio — a frequent target of gossip due to their 32-year age gap.

“That’s why she married a geriatric old man more than twice her age! She can afford all the work she’s had done! She looked so much better in 2021! I wonder who’s enjoying her, it sure isn’t him!” one person exclaimed.

Leavitt publicized the engagement ring given to her by Riccio with an Instagram post on Christmas Day 2023. She welcomed their son, Nicholas “Niko” Riccio, in July 2024.

The former communications director for Republican New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik married Riccio in January 2025, just days before Trump’s second inauguration ceremony on Jan. 20.

“I met my husband during my congressional campaign. A mutual friend of ours hosted an event at a restaurant that he owns up in New Hampshire and invited my husband,” Leavitt explained to conservative media figure Megyn Kelly in February.

When questioned on possibly having second thoughts about dating a much older man, Leavitt said, “Of course. It’s a very atypical love story, but he’s incredible. He is my greatest supporter. He’s my best friend. He’s my rock.”

Even as Leavitt draws fire almost daily for her statements to reporters in the White House briefing room, it appears that detractors online focus on her looks. In April 2025, another side-by-side picture of the Saint Anselm College graduate was shared by the same X account.

Those snapshots featured a picture of Leavitt from 2022 compared to a picture from 2025. The caption also suggested the press secretary is “sensitive” about being mocked for her facial features.

The constant attacks Leavitt faces mirror the tactics her boss is known for. Donald Trump has a long history of publicly mocking his political opponents over their physical appearance and using personal insults to discredit his perceived enemies.

At a 2015 rally in Myrtle Beach, Trump infamously made fun of Serge Kovaleski, a journalist who has the disability known as arthrogryposis. In 2017, the ex-host of “The Apprentice” also accused MSNBC commentator Mika Brzezinski of “bleeding badly” from a facelift.

‘Meant to Confuse the Issue’: New Video Shows Michigan Cop Barreling Down the Road at 117 MPH with No Lights or Sirens Before Killing Two Black Men, Now Lawyers Want to Blame the Victims

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 16:03

A Michigan police officer was driving 115 mph without emergency lights or sirens seconds before crashing into a car and killing two Black men inside, resulting in vehicular manslaughter charges against the cop.

But the cop’s attorneys are trying to lay the blame on the Black man driving the car, Cedric Hayden Jr., after a toxicology report revealed he had a blood alcohol concentration of .198, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08. Hayden, 34, was killed instantly along with his lifelong friend, Dejuan Pettis, 33.

However, Macomb County prosecutors are fighting to keep the toxicology report from being introduced in the cop’s trial, arguing that it would be prejudicial, meaning it could influence the jurors to side with the cop before even hearing details about his alleged crime.

Lifelong friends, Dejuan Pettis, 33, left, and Cedric Hayden, Jr, 34, were killed by Warren police officer James Burke who was driving at 115 mph with no lights or sirens when he struck them. (Photo: Pettis family and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office)

The judge overseeing the case, District Court Judge John Chmura, has not ruled yet on whether he would allow the toxicology report to to be introduced as evidence but he is expected to announce his decision any day now, according to The Detroit News.

“The speed the defendant was driving caused the crash,” Assistant Macomb County Prosecutor Cory Newman testified in a hearing in late April, according to The Detroit News.

“Introducing Mr. Hayden’s toxicology results is just meant to confuse the issue and paint a negative picture of Mr. Hayden.”

But defense attorneys representing former Warren police officer James Burke, the cop who was driving the patrol car that night, argued that it was not prejudicial.

“If that evidence was to be excused, I think that would be more prejudicial to Officer Burke than to Mr. Hayden, who was killed in the accident,” defense lawyer Marc Curtis said during the hearing.

Videos Released

The incident took place at about 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2024, as Burke was driving his patrol car with his partner, Michael Rodolfo, pursuing a suspect in a stolen car along a street where the speed limit was 40 mph.

But videos of the crash were not released until Monday, including dashcam footage from Burke’s patrol car as well as footage from two security cameras, including a gas station and a landscaping business.

The city of Warren had filed a motion to not make the videos public as well as other evidence in the case but the judge eventually allowed release of the videos but not all of the evidence, said attorney James Harrington, who is representing the families of both men in a civil lawsuit.

“We’ve been able to discover a mountain of evidence that supports our claims,” Harrington to The Detroit News.

“We’d love to be able to give it to you, but we’re only allowed to give you a portion of it.”

The dashcam video, that Harrington describes as “horrific”, shows Burke traveling at 117 mph seconds before the crash and at 109 mph in the milliseconds before the crash. The video contains no audio but shows Hayden attempting to make a left turn right before the cop crashes into his car.

The video from the landscaping business provides a clear view of the crash with sound and the video from the gas station captures the cop speeding, then seconds later, the sound of a loud impact can be heard.

Responding officers testified that Burke appeared to be “in a panic” and “traumatized” and “shook” as he tried to attend to the victims in the car he had just struck, according to testimony from Warren police officers Rami Anees and Andrew Piasecki.

Family members of the two men reacted with shock after watching the videos for the first time Monday.

“I just want justice for these boys,” Hayden’s father, Cedric Hayden Sr. told local media after watching the videos.

Pettis’ mother, Shakira, told local media that his two sons, ages 8 and 10, have been “crying themselves to sleep every night.”

“His boys are hurting,” she said.

The lawsuit lists both cops as defendants and accuses them of gross negligence, willful and wanton misconduct and negligent operation of a government-owned vehicle as accuses the city of ownership liability.

‘Is This Morgan Freeman or Someone That Looks Like Him?’: New Photos of Morgan Freeman Months After Sparking Health Concerns Leave Fans Stunned

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 15:48

Morgan Freeman has rarely been seen over the past few months, leaving fans concerned about his well-being and frail appearance last November. Now he appears to have found his fountain of youth on the sun-drenched shores of a Greek island, and fans couldn’t be more relieved.

The legendary actor, who celebrated his 88th birthday earlier this month, was recently spotted looking vibrant and healthy during a summer getaway to Paxos, Greece, alongside the cast and crew of the acclaimed Netflix series “Maestro in Blue.”

The images, which have been circulating across social media, show a stark contrast to concerning photos from just months earlier that had admirers worried about his well-being.

The Hollywood icon’s recent appearance comes as a welcome sight for those who expressed concern over his seemingly frail condition during a November outing in the Los Angeles area.

At that time, paparazzi captured Freeman outside an Italian restaurant in Santa Monica after dinner with friends, sparking widespread speculation about his health among devoted fans who have followed his illustrious career spanning over five decades. The viral images showed the Oscar-winning actor appearing more fragile than usual.

However, the recent photos from his Greek adventure tell a different story entirely. Freeman was photographed embracing the island’s natural beauty, dressed casually in a white checkered button up shirt, tan slacks, and sandals while enjoying intimate moments with his new Greek friends.

The images, shared by “Maestro in Blue” director Christoforos Papakaliatis and actress Maria Kavogianni on their respective Instagram accounts, capture Freeman in animated conversation, petting a black dog, taking shots, and sharing meals in what appears to be an orchard setting.

Yet, some fans couldn’t help but inject humor into their relief, with social media users playfully referencing Jordan Peele’s thriller “Get Out” when they saw the photos on the “Dolce Vita” actress’s social media.

“Morgan if you’re in trouble blink twice,” one concerned fan commented, while another wrote, “Is this Morgan freeman or someone that looks like him….something about this just don’t sit right.”

The jokes escalated when someone declared, “They done kidnapped Morgan Freeman! Get Out!” with another fan taking it even further by asking, “Who done kidnapped God?”

The references to Freeman’s occasional portrayal of divine characters weren’t lost on his followers, who have seen him play God in multiple films.

Not everyone was buying into the conspiracy theories, though.

One supporter stepped in to make a different guess, writing, “Nah, he’s definitely on a work trip. It’s written all over his face!” before playfully adding “whispers help in Black” at the end of her comment, acknowledging the running joke while defending the actor’s apparent contentment.

Another said, “I’m convinced that Morgan Freeman was just there to narrate how their day went and got paid for it.”

Freeman’s connection to the Greek island runs deeper than a simple vacation.

Last December,  Freeman took to Instagram to praise “Maestro in Blue,” calling the production “a masterpiece” and specifically highlighting Paxos as the stunning backdrop for the series.

His genuine appreciation for both the show and its filming location evidently inspired him to experience the island firsthand.

At 88, the “Shawshank Redemption” star continues to enjoy life and work actively in Hollywood, with recent projects including “Gunner” alongside Luke Hemsworth and an upcoming role in the third “Now You See Me” installment.

His Greek sojourn with the “Maestro in Blue” team has even sparked speculation among fans about a potential collaboration, with some wondering if Freeman might make a surprise appearance in future projects.

Two months after his frail appearance, the “Glory” actor was seen performing on stage with the legendary Al Green in Jan. 2025. Although he didn’t move much other than his hands and arms while doing a small two-step. Two months later, he made a surprise appearance at the 2025 Oscars in March to give tribute to fellow Oscar winner Gene Hackman, who was found deceased in his home with his wife four days earlier.

Freeman has kept a low public profile since then, which has only fueled wrongful suspicions and fake news whenever he goes viral online.

‘Waiting for Her’: Deranged TikToker Learns the Ultimate Lesson After Chilling Death Threats Against Kamala Harris

Thu, 06/26/2025 - 10:00

A Pennsylvania man is facing a federal indictment for allegedly threatening to “assassinate” former Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election in posts on social media.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Steven Hartford of Shippensburg, is accused of making menacing comments on videos posted to TikTok, warning the former vice president that he would “assassinate her.”

A federal grand jury indicted Hartford last week, charging him with making threats against a major candidate for the office of president, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

The indictment alleges that Hartford, using the handle thealex13one13, first threatened Harris in a comment on a 17-second TikTok video posted by the Daily Mail on July 21, 2024. The video was captioned “Will Kamala Harris be the next Democratic nominee?”

The DOJ says Hartford replied, “I will assassinate her if she runs for pres.”

The Daily Mail published another post, this time a 12-second TikTok video featuring Harris, accompanied by a caption that asked, “Could [the Candidate] replace Joe Biden?” The government says Hartford, as thealex13one13, then “made other comments on TikTok about and directed toward the Presidential Candidate, including: ‘22 250 coming her way;’ ‘5.56 for her;’ and ‘5.56 waiting for her.’”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania says Hartford’s arrest was part of Operation Take Back America, the Trump administration’s nationwide effort to arrest and deport migrants in the country illegally, eliminate drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protect communities from violent crime.

Hartford pleaded not guilty to the charges during his first court appearance on Monday, according to Law & Crime. His trial is scheduled to begin on Aug. 25, 2025. He’s facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the federal charges.

It’s not the only death threat Harris has received. A Virginia man, identified as Frank Lucio Carillo, was arrested last August and charged with threatening to kill the former presidential candidate. Carillo was accused of making threats, not only against Harris, but former President Joe Biden, former FBI Director Christopher Wray, several Arizona officials and others on the right-wing social media platform Gettr, according to CNN, citing court records.

The FBI found more than 4,300 posts from Carillo targeting Harris and “various public officials.” Court records show Carillo allegedly threatened to cut out Harris’ eyes and mentioned other ways he wanted to kill her.

The FBI reportedly was able to track him down using the email address connected to his GETTR account, which led to a cellphone and an address in Winchester, Virginia.

‘Go Fetch a Noose’: United Airlines Sued After Black Employee Alleges Racist Terror, Retaliation, and Cover-Up at Denver Hub

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 22:00

A former Black employee for United Airlines at its Denver International Airport hub alleges in a new lawsuit that numerous cases of racism and harassment in the workplace were covered up and never addressed.

Amir Brown, 31, recalled one such incident when a white supervisor known as “Fast Eddie” ordered another Black worker to “go fetch” a noose. “Fast Eddie” was eventually fired, the lawsuit obtained by Atlanta Black Star states, but there was no investigation into the use of the racist trope, or of another employee who was terminated after yelling the N-word in the terminal break room.

In his complaint, Brown said that it was typical of how problems were handled by United. Brown is not the first nonwhite employee to report discriminatory behavior at the airline’s Denver hub. In January, a Mongolian-born employee received $99,000 after he endured constant racial slurs and was physically assaulted on the job.

Brown said those who spoke out about incidents of bias were fired. He lost his job in November 2023 after the workplace environment became increasingly “hostile and retaliatory.”

“When Mr. Brown reported his discriminatory treatment, he was retaliated against
by his Supervisors, who escalated their efforts to discipline him for behaviors that non-Black employees were allowed to engage in and set him up for termination by denying him sick leave he should have been entitled to and failing to notify him about attendance discrepancies,” the suit states.

Brown alleges he was subjected to ongoing bigotry during his last two years with United by white coworkers who conspired to get him fired.

The harassment was “frequent and notorious in nature,” the complaint states. Brown, part of the “Aircraft Move Team” that repositioned aircraft around the Denver tarmac, claims his colleagues wouldn’t even acknowledge him or say hello. White members of the team “refused to partner with (him) on assignments” — a potential safety hazard.

Brown, one of two people of color on the team, said his supervisors were aware of his “segregation” and “exclusion” but did nothing to remedy it.

United “failed to take prompt or effective action to prevent, correct, or remedy the work environment that was hostile for Mr. Brown,” the suit continues, and for other non-white employees.

Genevieve Mesch, one of Brown’s attorneys, said Monday the airline “turn(ed) a blind eye to anti-Black racism.”

“Black employees also face harsher discipline than their non-Black counterparts,” she told The Independent. “Despite United being made aware of these incidents, the company has not implemented effective measures to address the culture of discrimination. This case represents one of several similar complaints filed by Denver-based United employees, showing a broader pattern of unaddressed racial discrimination.”

United would not address the specifics in Brown’s lawsuit, citing the ongoing nature of the case, but insisted it “fosters an environment of inclusion and does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.”

“We remain committed to protecting individuals who raise workplace concerns in good faith,” the missive concluded.

Brown began working for United in March 2017, was promoted twice and, according to his suit, was consistently recognized for performance. He said he worked between 70 and 100 hours a week.

Soon after transferring from Newark to Denver, Brown noted a “work environment and culture that enabled racism towards Black employees,” the complaint alleges.

He tells of an incident in 2022, when he requested parental leave to help care for his newborn daughter. He was told by management that “only mothers or management were eligible for bonding time. If he wanted time off, he’d have to use his 12 days of unpaid leave or one of his sick days.

That was not the case for a white male co-worker, not in management, who had been approved for paid leave after his daughter was born, the suit alleges

Such discriminatory treatment only got worse when he was promoted to the Aircraft Move Team in January 2023, where he was just one of two people of color, the suit claims.

A group of white coworkers began making false claims about Brown’s performance, alleging he used his cellphone while on the clock, according to the complaint.

Brown felt increasingly isolated and distressed, and believed his colleagues were trying to make working conditions so bad that he would quit. He started spending his break time in the locker room, the suit explains, but a white employee told management he was “uncomfortable” with having a Black man sit near his locker, “not just having an employee near their locker.”

From there, Brown found himself targeted by white colleagues in various other ways, being berated and sworn at on the airfield, getting criticized on the radio, and being set up to fail by way of bogus violations for minuscule offenses — such as not being in the break room when a supervisor went looking for him — that did not result in any penalties for non-Black workers who committed similar infractions, the complaint alleges.

As the racist incidents piled up, Brown faithfully reported them to management but received only inaction. The airline then warned Brown he was in danger of being fired, then “manufactured additional attendance violations in order to justify Mr. Brown’s termination,” the complaint states.

“As a result of his termination, Mr. Brown suffered and continues to suffer substantial injuries and damages, including lost wages and emotional distress and mental anguish,” his suit concludes.

Brown seeks economic damages, compensatory damages, and punitive damages for “intentional discrimination… done with malice or reckless indifference to (his) federally protected rights,” along with attorney’s fees and court costs.

‘Shoes on the Counter?’: Grossed-Out Fans Slam Chrissy Teigen After Noticing Child’s Shoes on Kitchen Counter While She Cooks

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 21:41

Chrissy Teigen is getting called out again by the hygiene police.

The mom of four and cooking author recently had two of her little ones in the kitchen to help her prepare dinner. Sharing their adorable bonding moment with the world, Teigen posted four videos and a photo on June 23 of them making orzo carbonara.

Each slide gave fans glimpses of the process of completing the dish, and the appearance from Teigen’s youngest children, Esti Maxi and Wren Alexander Stephens, made the moment even more adorable.

For some fans, that special moment was spoiled after they noticed what they called an unsanitary slip.

Chrissy Teigen receives backlash for letting kids cook with their shoes on the counter. (Photos: @chrissyteigen/Instagram)

In one video, 2-year-old Esti and her younger brother Wren — who turned 2 himself on June 19 — are seen sitting on the counter while they whisk away at the eggs. Teigen adorably stops Esti from putting cheese in the eggs, which wasn’t supposed to be put into the dish until later.

Following the second slide, where Teigen stirs at the orzo pasta in the pan, the kids make a return in the third slide. This time Esti gets her heart’s desire: grated cheese.

In the video, Teigen asks, “Esti, do you love cheese?” Mid-chew, Esti cutely looks at her mother and mumbles “yes.” She later says “I want some more cheese,” prompting Teigen to laugh.

Although the videos left many fans’ hearts melting, others couldn’t overlook the sanitation issue. Some objected to the children sitting on the countertop, especially since Esti kept her shoes on near the food.

One person said, “Always butts and feet on the counter and cutting board.”

Another wrote, “I love these videos!! Great for kids to help out. How long before someone says something about shoes on the counter?”

Others overlooked the shoes and complimented Teigen’s parenting, writing, “So adorable, a family cooking affair! I love how you teach them so much so early too.”

Another commented, “Love that you’re raising a house full of kids cooking!”

Claims about the “Cravings” author’s unsanitary practices in her home are a recurring theme for her, one she usually shrugs off.

In November 2024, Teigen shared a two-slide post about her hearty rice porridge called jok moo. In one video her son Wren was enjoying a bowl of it, in the next, her eldest daughter Luna was helping her make it.

Again fans were in an uproar in the comments after seeing a then 8-year-old Luna sitting barefoot on the marble countertop while helping her mom coop up meatballs of ground pork to drop in the porridge. Many blamed Teigen for poor hygiene lessons, though some fans defended the model.

Though she has defended herself at times for backlash she’s gotten, Teigen turned the other cheek in both videos and chose not to address the critics.

‘He’s Reaching In His Pocket’: Lawsuit Accuses Indiana Cops and Prosecutor’s Office of Lying About Black Man Holding Gun to Justify Killing Him. Video Shows He Had a Phone

Wed, 06/25/2025 - 20:15

Police body camera footage clearly shows La’Taurus Harrison holding a phone in his hand during the moments before an Indiana sheriff’s deputy fired 10 rounds at him last year, killing the 44-year-old Black man, claiming he had a gun in his hand.

But the gun is not visible in the two body camera videos released by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department last year.

Nevertheless, the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office cleared the deputy of all wrongdoing, stating in its press release that Harrison “drew a handgun from his pocket, and raised that handgun toward deputies” – without presenting visual evidence to back that claim.

La’Taurus Harrison was 44 years old when he was shot and killed by Indiana deputies who claimed he was holding a gun, but videos released do not show a gun, only a phone. A lawsuit has been filed calling the deputies liars. Harrison leaves behind his 82-year-old mother, left, and a 13-year-old daughter, right. (Photo: facebook.com/ruby.foard, Marion County Sheriff’s Department and facebook.com/latorisladon)

Last month, Harrison’s mother filed a lawsuit (obtained by Atlanta Black Star) against the deputies involved in the shooting, including Mason Brizendine, the only deputy to have opened fire, accusing them of lying to protect Brizendine about what had taken place that day.

The other two deputies listed as defendants in the lawsuit are Grant Stephens and Chris Burkhardt. Also listed as a defendant is Madison County, which would encompass both the sheriff’s department and the prosecutor’s office.

The videos show that Brizendine was standing the furthest away from the car when he opened fire, raising the question as to why the other deputies who were closer did not see a gun and open fire themselves.

The videos also show the deputies yelling contradictory orders, with one ordering him to place his “hands on the wheel” and another ordering him to “unlock the door” and another telling him to “get out the car.”

And none of the deputies ever yelled out “gun!” as they are trained to do when spotting a gun in a suspect’s hand.

Instead, Brizendine yelled out, “he’s reaching in his pocket, get your hands out of your pocket!” before opening fire 10 times, striking Harrison seven times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harrison’s 82-year-old mother, Ruby Foard, witnessed the shooting and could be heard wailing in the background.

Watch the video below.

‘Gun Was a Lie’

The incident took place on June 1, 2024, after Madison County sheriff’s deputies tracked Harrison down to his mother’s home using a GPS monitoring device, accusing him of violating probation because he was confined to home detention in Indianapolis, which was about 45 minutes away from his mother’s home in Marion County.

Body camera videos show them arriving at his mother’s home and finding him sitting inside his car parked on the side of the house with a phone in his hand, then yelling their contradictory orders, which is a common occurrence in these situations.

“Put your hands on the wheel, put the phone down,” Deputy Stephens yelled.

“Unlock the car,” Brizendine yelled.

“You have a warrant, you’re going to jail, get out of the car,” Burkhardt yelled.

“I’m going to get out, I’m calling my girl,” Harrison responded.

“No, you can call her when you get out,” Stephens responded, trying to open the door to his car which was locked.

Seconds later, Burkhardt began shattering the driver’s side window with a baton, which was followed by Brizendine opening fire.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department told local media that they applied for a search warrant to search his car and found “a handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition, as well as a box of additional ammunition and a large knife,” but it is not clear where exactly in the car were the weapons found.

Ten days after the shooting, the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office announced it would not be filing criminal charges against the deputies, stating the following on its Facebook page.

Deputies gave twenty-six (26) loud, verbal commands for Harrison to show his hands, not to reach for his pocket, to unlock the vehicle, and to exit the vehicle. Harrison disobeyed these lawful commands, refused to exit the vehicle, drew a handgun from his pocket, and raised that handgun toward deputies.

Under any reasonable application of the law to these facts, law enforcement was justified in using deadly force as self-defense and the defense of others. Deputy Brizendine’s actions that day likely saved his life and/or the lives of Sgt. Burkhardt and Deputy Stephens. Therefore, no criminal charges are warranted for the use of deadly force.

The federal lawsuit filed on May 31 by Indiana attorney David B. Owens states that it was impossible for Brizendine to have seen a gun in Harrison’s hand from where he had been standing, accusing the other deputies of covering up for him.

Defendant Officers falsely claimed that Brizendine saw La’taurus Harrison pull out, and raise, a gun from his pocket.

Yet they knew this was impossible given Defendant Brizendine’s vantage point.

Defendant Officer’s claim that Defendant Brizendine saw La’taurus Harrison pull out a gun was a lie that Defendant Officers, in conspiracy with other officers, came up with after-the-fact to attempt to justify this unlawful shooting.

Defendant Officer’s accounts to authorities investigating the shooting incident are at odds with, and contradicted by, the truth of what actually occurred.

The lawsuit accuses the deputies of using excessive deadly force, unlawful seizure, unlawful entry, assault and battery, wrongful death, negligent infliction of emotional distress, trespassing on his mother’s property without a warrant or notifying her, failure to intervene for going along with the unconstitutional practices without intervening and conspiracy to deprive Harrison of his constitutional rights.

The lawsuit states that Harrison was a loving father of a 13-year-old girl as well as a loving son to his elderly mother, with whom he was very close.

“Her upbringing will now be forever altered by the difficulties that she and her caretakers will face as a result of her father’s death,” the claim states in reference to his daughter.

“Ruby Foard, La’taurus’s mother, has experienced monumental loss as well. Ms. Foard has been harmed by the actions during the shooting, as she watched Defendant Brizendine take the life of her son in the driveway of her home.”
